Book Signing A Great Success
The book signing for "Breaking the Line" by Samuel G. Freedman, which was held at the museum on Monday, August 26th was a great success. The pre-sign panel included the Author, former GSU and NFL players Delles Howell and GSU Coach Doug Williams, former Coach Rob assistant Douglas Porter, and a rare appearance by former assistant coach Melvin Lee. GSU's own James "Shack" Harris, the first black quarterback to start in the NFL surprised guest and participated on the panel by phone. "Breaking the Line" tells the story of the season in Black College football tha tranformed the sport and changed the course of civil rights - the 1967 Black College Championship game between Grambling and FAMU known as the "Orange Blossom Classic".
