Robinson board OKs site at GSU

May 5, 2006 By Nick Deriso TheNewsStar.com The Eddie Robinson Museum Board gave preliminary approval Thursday for a permanent project site, the historic Women's Memorial Gym on the campus of Grambling State. The 8,000-square-foot gym, which also includes office space, is being vacated with the opening of a new basketball facility at GSU. "The momentum is there now," said museum board member John Belton, a Ruston attorney. "Everybody left with a different level of excitement. This is a major milestone." GSU president Horace Judson, who attended the meeting as an ex-officio board member, has given this idea the green light, provided logistics can be worked out. Most important of all, said Belton, was the approval of Doris Robinson, the wife of the ailing former GSU coach. Representatives from the state Secretary of State's office and two exhibit-design companies who are vying for the project bid also attended.
